Abstract: 

THE QUEUING THEORY WAS FIRST RAISED IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR. THIS THEORY IS GENERALLY APPLIED IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES. EVEN IN URBAN TRAFFIC THIS THEORY IS BEING APPLIED. ALSO, THIS THEORY HAS BEEN APPLIED IN MARITIME TRANSPORTATION. OUR COUNTRY, IRAN, FACING WITH THE GROWING DEVELOPMENT OF CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION HAS ACTUALLY ENTERED NEW ERA. ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ATTRIBUTES OF THE CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION IS ITS EXTRAORDINARY DISCIPLINE. AS OF THE TIME WHEN THE CUSTOMER ENTERED IN THE CYCLE OF CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION ACTUALLY STEPS INTO A NEATLY ORDERED AND DISCIPLINED PROCESS THAT SHOULD BE WAITING FOR HIS/HER SERVICES SUCH AS: DELIVERY OF EMPTY CONTAINER, RECEIVING FULL CONTAINER, WAITING FOR LOADING/DISCHARGE IN DESTINATION AND ETC.IN THE OTHER HAND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEMS WHICH ARE SPECIAL TO THE CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDING EMPTY CONTAINER TO BE STAFFED WITH GOODS WHICH CANNOT BE MANAGED WITHOUT APPLICATION OF THE QUEUING THEORY. AS THE FIGURES RELATED TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE CONTAINERS AMOUNTS TO MILLIONS, THE ISSUE OF COSTS, TIME AND PRODUCTIVITY REALLY MATTER. THE APPLICATION QUEUING THEORY IN MARITIME TRANSPORTATION SPECIAL IN CONTAINER TRANSPORT HAS DELIVERED REMARKABLE RESULTS.

Abstract: 

Undoubtedly, container transportation is one of the factors contributing to the development of transportation and its speed in the today world. But the problem remains in the container transportation area as an unresolved issue is the empty container problem which due to the unbalancing between export and import of goods in all ports of the world. In this paper, investigated the reposition of empty containers under uncertain conditions of some problem parameters. a robust scenario-based approach based on the scenario tree analysis method has been used under different scenarios to modeling the uncertainty of some of the problem parameters. In order to evaluate and validate the proposed model, the data from Iran maritime port network are used. The computational results indicate the appropriate performance of proposed robust model, under uncertainty conditions, and also the importance of using robust approach in creating reposition of empty containers robust plans under uncertain conditions.

Abstract: 

During the last few years, the transportation industry faced several crises with virus pandemic. The measures which are taken by the countries to tackle the pandemic has negatively affected the supply chain. It leaves the maritime transport industry with a vacuum of correctly predicting the volume of operations. The current research is an attempt to reduce the research gap and help market players to make more correct decisions in the future crisis. The purpose of this research is to model the time series of container transportation to predict the short-term trend of these indicators and its relationship with Covid-19 as an epidemic virus. The impact of Covid-19 is examined by forecasting container traffic indicators in 70 major international ports. The modeling process has been done with seasonal moving average and exponential smoothing model. To evaluate the performance of the models, information evaluation criteria and measurement error are calculated and compared. The seasonal integrated moving average model was found to be the most suitable and better model for predicting container indices.

Abstract: 

containerized transportation is undoubtedly one of the factors of transportation development and its enhanced speed in the world of today and its position is not only stable in the shipping industry, but it is also growing fast.However, the problem not solved in this relation up until today is that of the empty containers due to commodity import-export imbalance in all the ports throughout the world, but the success of these ports to reduce this phenomenon is different. Effort has been made in this paper to address the empty containers’ repositioning problem considering the high importance of empty containers issue as regards maintenance costs, loading and unloading, insufficient area/storage facilities in the importation ports on the one hand, and the costs ofthe missed opportunities, customers’dissatisfaction, andthe economic dependence on other countries’ exportation ports facing shortage of empty containers on the other. Accordingly, the empty containers transportation planning model has been proposed in this research aiming at minimizing the total costs of transportation, storage, shortage, and loading/unloading of empty containers through considering the shortage and inventory levels simultaneously.The proposed model’s numerical experiments have been validated in the GAMS Software environment through a linear programming approach considering a spatiotemporal network of Iran ports as a real network for studying the problem of the repositioning of empty containers.The computational results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed model in balancing the empty containers’shortage level in the network ports, 41.2% reduction in the overall cost compared with that in the real situation, and optimization of the predefined goals.

TODAY WITH DEVELOPMENT OF USING CONTAINERS FOR MOVEMENTS OF CARGOES, CONTAINER TERMINALS KNOWN AS COMPETITION ADVANTAGE OF EVERY PORT. THIS RESEARCH AIMS TO SUGGESTS PROPER MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS FOR CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION AT KHORRAMSHAHR PORT. THEREFORE, THIS RESEARCH DONE AT 2 PHASES. AT FIRST STAGE, AFTER RECOGNIZING STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS OF KHORRAMSHAHR CONTAINER TERMINAL BY AID OF BRAIN STORMY METHOD, WITH REGARDING TO POPULATION OF EXPERTS AT KHORRAMSHAHR PORT, CUSTOMS AND SHIPPING AGENCYIES (50 PERSONNES), USED KUKRAN FORMULA AND DISTRIBUTED 33 QUESTIONNAIRE BETWEEN THEM AS SAMPLE FOR CALCULATING THE WEIGHTS OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL FACTORS. POSITION OF KHORRAMSHHR CONTAINER TERMINAL BASED ON INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EVALUATION SCORES IDENTIFIED AS "SURVIVAL" WHICH IS EQUAL WITH "W-O" STRATEGIES IN SWOT MATRIX. Abstract: 

Simultaneous with port's development and complexity III transportation processes, a number of problems have occurred in global supply chain. Nowadays, new technologies are used as a flexible solution to control quality of services and manage port's processes. One of the most effective existing technologies that can be used for container transportation is RFID technology. The most important benefit of RFID technology is the automation of processes through providing decision support systems based on real time and accurate data.This study follows an efficient RFID-Based model to improve port's container transportation. According to Literature review and available academic models, the port's RFID system cycle has been designed and a model has been proposed. This model has used the internal experience and the result of the initial site has been surveyed. By understanding the conceptual variables in the model and analysis of questionnaire's data and obtaining RFID and port expert's ideas, the final model has been presented.According to the study, the proposed model is believed to be efficient for Bushehr port's and has positive effect on security, speeding, Transparency and container's processes visibility and can be used as a pattern for other ports.

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION LED TO ADVANCEMENT OF MARITIME AND SHIPPING INDUSTRY AS WELL. IN THE OTHER HAND GLOBALIZATION OF THE ECONOMY CREATED AN APPROACH TO MINIMIZE THE COSTS FOR ENABLING THE END USER AND CONSUMERS TO RECEIVE THE COMMODITIES WITH LOWER PRICE. CONTAINERIZATION CONTRIBUTED TO THIS END.CONTAINERIZATION IMPLIES INFRASTRUCTURE IN TERMS OF PORT AND HANDLING EQUIPMENT WITHOUT WHICH SURVIVING IN THIS MODE OF TRANSPORTATION SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE. MODERN CONTAINER SHIPS EMERGED AND WERE INTRODUCED TO THE SCENE OF MOVEMENT OF CARGO. DUE TO ITS RELATIVE ADVANTAGES COMPARED TO THE OTHER MODES OF TRANSPORTATION, CONTAINERIZATION WAS WELCOMED BY THE CARRIERS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REASONS WHY IRANIAN PORTS DON'T SEEM DEVELOPED IN ACCOMMODATING CONTAINER SHIP AND RESPONDING TO THE NEED OF CONTAINERIZATION. ENJOYING AN IDEAL GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION, IRANIAN PORT CAN BEST UTILIZE THE ADVANTAGE OF CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION AND TURN INTO HUB PORTS IN THE PERSIAN GULF REGION.

Abstract: 

This research aims to evaluate quality services in the Rajaee Port container terminal by using SERVQUAL model that is a tool for measuring quality services, identification and for analyzing available gaps between expectations and perceptions services. Container terminal customers at the port of Rajaee are community statistics in this Research. Judgmental sampling method use for selecting sample. The standard and localized questionnaires with Cronbach,s alpha coefficient in the perceptions section was 0.921 and in expectations section was 0.895 that was distributed among the 150 members of sample, which 102 (68%) questionnaires were available. First for analyze the data, the researcher used of LISREL software to check reliability SERVQUAL model (Size Making Model First and Second term) and then used SPSS software to do T Test pair sample for analyzing significant gap between expectations and perceptions respondents. Results obtained in this study indicated that there is a gap between customer,s expectation services and perceptions services in container terminal of Rajaee Port in all five dimension of quality services and from weight point of view. the physical dimension is the most important dimension between all dimensions and after that, reliability, assurance, responsiveness and empathy are also important. In addition, physical dimension have maximum gap and empathy dimension have minimum gap between customers, expectations and perceptions.
